About our Sicilian Sea Salt
Sicilian Sea Salt was founded in 2021 with a simple idea: bring a true piece of Sicily back to American tables.
I'm Joe Styler, the founder. My family's story runs from Trapani, Sicily to New Jersey, where I was born — my grandmother came from Sicily, and her kitchen is where my love of Italian food began. I went to culinary school as a young man and trained under my uncle, the chef and cookbook author Chris Styler. I've been cooking and learning ever since: homemade pasta, wood-fired pizza in the Ooni oven, BBQ, smoking, bread baking. Friends who come for dinner tell me I should open a restaurant. Instead, I started this company — because the single ingredient that changed my cooking more than any technique ever did was salt.
In 2018, I traveled back to Sicily and discovered the salt that started all of this. In the salt pans of Trapani, where seawater has been turned into salt by sun, wind, and human hands for nearly three thousand years, I tasted what salt is supposed to be. There is a lot of salt in Sicily, but I believe I found the best on the island — and, in my opinion, the best in the world. I started sharing it with friends and family, and every single person asked where they could get more. Eventually the answer became: from me.
Every jar of our hand-harvested Sicilian sea salt comes from the Trapani salt pans, an IGP-protected region, and is packed in small batches here in the USA. It contains nothing but salt — no additives, no anti-caking agents, no industrial processing. If you grew up remembering how food used to taste, when ingredients were pure and simple, this salt will take you back there. It is made today the same way it was made a thousand years ago: by the sea, the sun, and skilled hands. No giant mining companies. No machines doing the work of people.
We care about how we get it to you, too. Our glass jars are reusable and recyclable, our refill bags cut down on packaging waste, and our shipping materials are recyclable. We're a small company working toward an ever-smaller footprint, because a product made by the sea should give back to it.
This company is three generations of Sicilian Americans — my dad, my son, and me — sharing the thing our family has always known: great food starts with great salt.
Thank you for being here. Now go salt something.
